The Raven

"The Raven was written by Edgar Allan Poe. This is a poem talking about one dark December night, a Raven came and tapped on the poet's door. When he opened the door, he heard the Raven say Lenore, his true love. He told the raven to leave, but the bird refused and remained forever above the poet's chamber door. When the poet asked its name, all the Raven said was "Nevermore".

This poem has a very mysterious and a suspenseful mood. The poet has been using a lot of poetic devices such as assonance, alliteration, rhyme scheme and repetition. Here's an example of assonance from the text "the rare and radiant maiden whom the angel's name Lenore". There's another one "And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door". After this vowel sound repeating, we also have alliteration such as "Thoughthy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,"I said. "Art sure no craven". Rhyme Scheme has come next. The poet has used the same Rhyme Scheme from beginning of the poem to the end. For Example, in the first stanza, the rhyme scheme is a, a, b, c, b, b, b and that came from the last words of each sentence. They are dreary, weary, lore, tapping, door, door, and more. We can see that dreary and weary are rhyme, so they became a, a. Lore, door, door and more rhyme, so they all become bs. There's only one tapping that rhyme with the others, so it became c. The same method I used for the second, third stanza and so on. I see that they are all the same. That's why I found this poem very funny and I wondered how much time the poet spent on this poem. At last, the poet used repetition to make the sounds of the words funnier and I really like it. I think the words that I like are" Only this and nothing more. The poet has been repeating more and nevermore in the poem, I think it sounds pretty good.

I think I like this poem very much. Not just because the words seem funny or strange, it also expressed the sadness of the narrator for the loss of his true love. I think the poet's true love was a happy woman to have such a lover remember her and still love her after she was gone.
